Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for admission into SANDWICH undergraduate, diploma and certificate programmes of the University of Cape Coast for the 2014/2015 academic year.  Scratch cards for online application are up for sale at the centres listed below:

Online applicants should visit www.ucc.edu.gh then go to Admissions and click on Apply Online for further instructions.

All applicants will be given three (3) pre-paid envelopes, two of which are blank official envelopes and should be self-addressed by applicants.

All applicants are required to provide the following information at the back of the large EMS envelope:

application reference number

full name

postal address

first choice programme and

application category which should be one of the following: SSSCE/WASSCE or Post-Diploma.

Applicants are advised to read application instructions as well as the contents of the admissions brochure very carefully before completion of the online application form.  Applications on which APPLICATION REFERENCE NUMBERS are not indicated will not be processed.

3.1       DEPARTMENT OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT

DIPLOMA IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

DIPLOMA IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT

TARGET GROUPS

SHS graduates who wish to pursue a career in Tourism or Hospitality Industry.

Low to middle level management staff in Ghana’s growing hospitality and tourism industry who need opportunities to enhance their skills and climb the academic ladder to enhance their careers.

DURATION:  8 weeks

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Certificate in Tourism/Hospitality/Business or related field plus three years working experience in a recognized tourism/hospitality facility.

Or

GCE ‘O’ Level or SSS certificate

FEES:  GH¢ 1,350.00

B.SC. (TOURISM MAMAGEMENT)

B.SC. (HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates applying for admission into the above programmes should have the relevant requirements, namely:

Diploma in Tourism Management OR Diploma in Hospitality Management, UCC.

Related Diploma Certificate, such as:

HND (Tourism)

HND (Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management/Hospitality Management)

All candidates should submit certified copies of their transcripts and NAPTEX Certificate with the application. Candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.

DURATION
Each sandwich semesters will last 8 weeks. The first Semester begins in June, 2014.

3.2       DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY AND REGIONAL PLANNING

DIPLOMA IN TRANSPORT AND ROAD SAFETY MANAGEMENT

TARGET GROUPS

The programme targets drivers in governmental and non-governmental institutions/organizations, transport unions such as the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Kingdom Transport, Metro Mass Transport Services (MMTS), Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), Car Rentals as well as educational Institutions in the country.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

The programme is available to people with certificates in basic road safety or fleet management from Road Safety Transportation Consultancies (RSTC) Limited or similar training institutions.
Fees (Fresh students)

Admission is on fee-paying basis as follow:

Diploma in Transport and Road Safety Management – GH¢1,370.00

3.3       DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY

DIPLOMA IN SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates applying for admission into the programme should have any of the following:

Certificate in Social Behaviour and Conflict Management from the University of CapeCoast.

Five (5) credit passes at SSSCE/WASSCE including English and Mathematics.

GCE ‘A’ level passes in two subjects and ‘O’ level credit passes in English and Mathematics.

GCE ‘O’ level credit passes in five (5) subjects including English and Mathematics.

Teacher’s Cert. ‘A’ with ‘O’ level credit passes in English and Mathematics.

Stenographer Grade Two Certificate.

All candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.

TARGET GROUP

This course is open to interested persons who have any of the above qualifications.  In particular, workers in the protection agencies – the Police Service, Prison Service, Customs, Excise and Preventive Services, Fire Service, Immigration and National Disaster Management Organisation, Teachers and NGOs – are encouraged to apply.

DURATION
Three (3) long vacation semesters lasting eight (8) weeks each.  The First Semester begins in June, 2014.

B.A. (SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AND CONFLICT MAMAGEMENT)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates applying for admission into the programme should have any of the following requirements:

Diploma in Social Behaviour and Conflict Management, UCC.

Related Diploma Certificate, such as:

Diploma in Labour Studies – IDS, UCC.

Diploma in Labour Studies – GIMPA, Legon.

Diploma in Social Work – UG, Legon

All candidates should have obtained at least a pass at the Diploma Level. Candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.

DURATION

Three (3) long vacation semesters lasting 8 weeks each.  The first Semester begins in June, 2014.

 4.0       FACULTY OF EDUCATION

4.1       DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE EDUCATION

B. ED. (HEALTH SCIENCES)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

OR

Candidates must possess GCE ‘O’ Level certificate with passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and General Science. Passes at the GCE ‘A’ Level will be an advantage.

OR

SSSCE/WASSCE certificate with good passes in five subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Science.

In addition to (i) or (ii) above, candidates must possess a THREE (3) YEAR DIPLOMA awarded by an accredited Health Training Institution with at least THREE (3) YEARS working experience (excluding “rotation” for nurses) in relevant areas such as General Nursing, Environmental Health, Disease Control, Community Health, Midwifery, Nutrition or Psychiatry.

Fees for fresh students -  GH¢ 2, 160.00

4.2       DEPARTMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION

CERTIFICATE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

TARGET GROUP

Teachers and attendants who work in pre-school and in Early Childhood Programmes (Day Care Centres, Nursery Schools and Kindergartens).

Teachers in Primary Schools who are interested in specializing in Early Childhood Education.

Staff of institutions related to child care.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be teaching/working in a pre-school or Primary School

Applicants must have sat either SSSCE or WASSSCE or an equivalent examination or must be at least 25 years old.

Applicants must pass an entrance examination and an interview conducted by the Department.

DURATION

The programme is by sandwich and will cover two long vacation periods of eight (8) weeks each (June – July)

Date of Examination: Thursday, 3rd April, 2014 to be followed by interview on the same day.

Fees:    Fresh Students – Nine Hundred and fifty Ghana cedis (GH¢950.00)
Continuing Students – Eight Hundred and Thirteen Ghana cedis (GH¢813.00)

DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

TARGET GROUP

Untrained early childhood teachers

Teachers in Basic Schools interested in early childhood education

Staff of NGOs working in child care institutions

Staff of Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Direct Entry

Post-Senior High School Candidates with passes in 5 subjects. Three of the five subjects must be core subjects (including English language, Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies) and two elective subjects with a minimum aggregate of 20 for SSSCE and 30 for WASSCE.

Applicants with Teachers Certificate ‘A’ or Certificate in Early Childhood Education from recognised institutions with a CGPA of 2.5 or better.

Entry through Exams and Interview

Mature candidates

Applicants must be 25 years and above and must be holders of Senior High School Certificate.

Applicants with certificate in Early Childhood Education from recognised institutions.

Note:  Candidates in category ‘b’ will be required to pass a selection examination and   interview on Thursday, 10th April 2014.

DURATION
The programme is by sandwich and will cover three long vacation periods of eight (8) weeks each (June – July)

Fees:    Fresh Students – One Thousand, and fifty Ghana cedis (GH¢1, 050.00)
Continuing Students -

Diploma Year Two:    Eight hundred and forty Ghana Cedis (GH¢840.00)

5.0       SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL SCIENCES

5.1       DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

B.Sc. (ENGINEERING PHYSICS)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants should possess a good HND – preferably a second class or better or its equivalent from a recognized Polytechnic or Institution in Engineering

DURATION
Four (4) long vacation periods (8 weeks each).
Next Semester: June – July, 2014

Fees for the Semester:
Fresh Students:   One thousand and six hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,600.00)
Continuing Students: One thousand, five hundred and twenty-six Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,526.00)

5.2       DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

B.Sc. (WATER & SANITATION)
TARGET GROUPS

The main target groups are:

Environmental Health Staff in the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Polytechnic graduates with relevant engineering background.

Professionals in other water and sanitation sector organisations with relevant entry requirement and work experience.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Prospective candidates are expected to possess at least one of the following qualifications and pass an admission interview:

Diploma in Water and Sanitation from the University of Cape Coast or its equivalent from any recognized University.

Diploma in Environmental Health or Environmental Health Technology from Accra School of Hygiene and any recognized University.

Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

DURATION

Four (4) Sandwich Semesters, (8 weeks each) followed by supervised field work during vacation.

Next Sandwich Semester        June – July, 2014

FEES:

Admission is on fee-paying basis. The fee for the 2013/2014 academic year is as follows:
Fresh Students: One thousand, four hundred and twenty Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,420.00), excluding accommodation.

Continuing Students: One thousand, three hundred and eighty-five Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,385.00), excluding accommodation.

Two (2) Years
First Semester: June-July, 2014 (8 weeks)

Second Semester: December, 2014-January, 2015 (4 weeks) followed by supervised industrial attachment.

FEES:

Admission is on fee-paying basis. The fee for the 2013/2014 academic year is as follows:

Fresh Students: One Thousand, Four Hundred and Fifty-nine Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,459.00), excluding accommodation.
Continuing Students: One Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty-nine Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,359.00), excluding accommodation.

Applicants should posses a good HND/Diploma in Science Laboratory, Laboratory Technology, Chemical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Technology – with, at least a second class (lower division) or its equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution.

All candidates will be required to pass an interview

DURATION
Four (4) long vacation periods (8 weeks each).
Next Semester: June – July, 2014

FEES:
Fresh Students:   One thousand, four hundred and ninety-nine Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,890.00).
Continuing Students: One thousand, six hundred and forty-five Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,645.00).

6.0    SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

6.1   DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

The programme is available to holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) Accountancy or its equivalent, who obtained Second Class Division or better.

Applicants should ensure that the following documents are submitted together with the application forms.

A certified academic transcript showing semester by semester GPA and FCGPA.

A certified copy each of NAPTEX certificate and results slip.

DURATION

The programme is run over four (4) Sandwich Semesters

FEES:
Admission will be on fee-paying basis. The fees for the 2013/2014 Sandwich Semester (June – July, 2014) are as follows:

Fresh Students: One thousand five hundred and ninety-seven Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,597.00).

Continuing Students: One thousand three hundred and fifty-eight Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,358.00).

6.2      DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES

BACHELOR OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES

B.Sc. (MARKETING)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Higher National Diploma in Marketing, Accountancy, Purchasing and Supply, Secretaryship and Management Studies as well as other business related areas from any recognized tertiary institution.

Any other Diploma from any recognized tertiary institution or professional body MAY be considered.

Applicants should ensure that the following documents are submitted together with the application forms.

A certified academic transcript showing semester by semester GPA and FCGPA.

A certified copy each of NAPTEX certificate and results slip.

DURATION

The programmes are run over four (4) Sandwich Semesters

FEES:
Admission will be on fee-paying basis. The fee for the 2014 Sandwich Semester (June – July 2014) are:

Fresh Students:  One thousand, seven hundred and fifty-one Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,751.00)

Continuing Students:    One thousand, four hundred and ninety-nine Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,499.00).

PAYMENT OF FEES:

All students must pay their full fees into the School of Business Sandwich Programme Account (Account Number: 3021130002464)at any networked branch of Ghana Commercial Bank by 2nd June, 2014.

First Semester:  June – July, 2014

7.0   ACCOMMODATION

The sandwich programmes are residential, and students outside CapeCoast will be responsible for securing their own accommodation on campus.  There are accommodation options in the halls of residence to choose from.

Applicants are advised to read, very carefully, instructions on the admission forms before completing them.

All completed Application Forms should reach THE DEPUTY REGISTRAR, DIVISION OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST by Friday, February 28, 2014.

No additional documents will be accepted after submission of application forms
